How to Enable and Use Track Changes in Google Docs

Google Docs comprises various features, but tracking changes is a key feature in Google Docs. It monitors/tracks the contributions of every contributor to that specific document. The contributors have the option to accept/reject the changes. This feature is quite helpful for the editors/reviewers to suggest changes, and then the author/writer looks at them to perform the suggested changes. This post serves the content as follows:

Method 1: Turn on “Suggesting” Mode to Enable and Use Track Changes

After opening the new or existing document, a method is considered by selecting the “Suggesting” option from the “Editor” button. It enables the user to make changes in Google Docs. The following steps are followed for tracking changes in Google Docs.

Step 1: Enable the Suggesting Option

After writing some text, you can select the “Editor” button. It generates a dropdown list with different options. In these options, you can select the “Suggesting” options to enable the changes: 

Step 2: Modify Changes in Google Docs

In this step, an existing text is already written, as shown in the figure. After selecting the “Suggesting” option, users can modify the text that is highlighted in Google Docs:

Step 3: Highlighting Changes in Sidebar

This step displays the changes/modifications that the editors have done in Google Docs. The below figure illustrates changes on the right portion of the screen:

Step 4: Accept or Reject Changes

In the sidebar, users can track all the changes that the editors or authors have made in Google Docs. Moreover, users can reject or accept changes in Google Docs.

Method 2: Track Changes Through Version History

Another method is considered to see all the changes in Google Docs. In this method, the version history of the document can be checked, which shows the changes made by the contributors. Let’s see how it can be done:

Step 1: Open Version History

After performing changes in Google Docs, users can open the link “Open Version History” that generates a new pop window in Google Docs:

Step 2: Track All Changes in Google Docs

The pressed link navigates the user to a new window. In this window, track all the changes by choosing the specific version from the “Version history”. Moreover, this method provides the date, time, and name of the editor who made the changes in Google Docs:

The strikethrough text shows that this specific text was deleted, and the new text is shown by highlighting the text.
