Ubuntu has released its new release of 22.04 that is also known as Jammy Jellyfish which is using the Wayland server as a default display server with a lot of included features of the GTK2 and GNOME 42. The Ubuntu 22.04 image is available on its website which can be downloaded by the Ubuntu users and they can enjoy it.
The Ubuntu 22.04 can be run on the virtual box which is explained in this write-up, the steps are included in the installation of Ubuntu 22.04 on VirtualBox.
How to install the VirtualBox on Ubuntu 22.04
We will use the apt package manager to install the VirtualBox from the default repository to install the VirtualBox on Ubuntu 22.04:
$ sudo apt install virtualbox
To launch the VirtualBox through the terminal, we will run the command:
$ virtualbox
How to install the Ubuntu 22.04 on the VirtualBox
We will launch the VirtualBox application and click on the “New” to create a new machine:
We will assign a name for the new machine, as we have assigned it “Ubuntu 22.04”, assign the location where the files of the machine will be stored, type will be “Linux” and version will be “Ubuntu (64-bit)”, when all information is inserted, then click on the “Next” button to proceed:
Assign the memory size to this machine and click on the “Next” button:
Click on the “Create a virtual hard disk now” and then click on the “Create” button:
As we are using the image of the Ubuntu so we will choose the “VDI (VirtualBox Disk Image)” and then click on the “Next” button:
Define the behavior of the memory allocation on the VirtualBox by clicking on the “Dynamically Allocated” and clicking on the “Next” button:
Assign the memory to the machine, the minimum is 10 GB required but you can assign more than the 10 GB and click on the “Create” button:
A machine has been created, now click on the “Settings” icon to configure the settings of the machine:
Now click on the “Storage” and by clicking on the cd icon, assign the address where the downloaded iso file has been located of the Ubuntu 22.04 and click on the “OK” button:
Finally, click on the “Start” icon to run the machine:
A Ubuntu 22.04 screen will be appeared, select the language as we have selected the “English” and then click on the “Install Ubuntu”:
In the next screen, choose the layout of the keyboard and click on the “Continue” button:
Check all the options shown below in the figure for the normal installation of the Ubuntu and click on the “Continue‘ button:
Delete all the data from the allocated disk by checking the box shown below and click on the “Install Now” button:
Type the name of the machine with the strong password and click on the “Continue” button:
The installation of the files of the Ubuntu 22.04 has been started and it will take few minutes to complete the installation:
The Ubuntu 22.04 after completion of the installation the files will restart automatically and login by providing the password of the user account “itslinux”:
