Method 1: How to download and install Google fonts on Ubuntu 22.04 from its official website
We can choose any specific Google font from its official website, download it, and then install it on Ubuntu. For the understanding, we will download the “Macondo” Google fonts and install it:
Click on the “Download Family” and wait for the downloaded file to be downloaded:
When the “Macondo” has been downloaded, navigate to the “Downloads” directory:
$ cd Downloads
Next is to unzip the downloaded zip file of Mocando:
$ unzip Macondo.zip
Next step is to register the font by using the command:
$ sudo fc-cache -fv
To confirm the installation use the command:
$ fc-match Macondo
Method 2: How to download and install Google fonts on Ubuntu 22.04 from Font Downloader
Another application by which we can download and install Google fonts is “Font Downloader” which can be downloaded by using the flatpak utility as this package has to be downloaded and installed from flathub. To install the flatpak utility on Ubuntu, use the command:
$ sudo apt install flatpak -y
Next step is to download and install Font Downloader by using the flatpak command:
$ flatpak install flathub org.gustavoperedo.FontDownloader
To run the application of Font Downloader on Ubuntu, use the command:
$ flatpak run org.gustavoperedo.FontDownloader
You can download any type of Google font from here and use it. To uninstall the Font Downloader, we will use the flatpak utility again:
$ flatpak uninstall flathub org.gustavoperedo.FontDownloader
